The charging point for the electric vehicle

The popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrids is growing in Finland at a vast pace, and many people are considering buying a vehicle that runs on an electric engine. EVs are also becoming a more frequent sight on the roads and outside homes, which attracts interest in various charging options. Charging at home during the night may be the simplest way to charge your own EV, but there are also many other options available.

When it is time to get your own EV charging point, we are happy to help. We recommend our customers to start the process by taking advantage of our free remote survey. In the survey, we study the power data of your electricity connection on the basis of metered electricity consumption, and then compile a report on them for your use. The report shows the size of the EV charger you can connect to your electricity connection, e.g., straight away without increasing the capacity of the connection.

We carry out remote surveys for charging points for households, housing companies and businesses.

Sizing of an electric vehicle charging point

Full electric vehicles and rechargeable hybrid cars are becoming increasingly more common on the roads and outside homes. As a result, interest towards different charging options is growing.

Typically, a vehicle is charged when it is parked up for the longest time. Often this is at home or at the workplace. It is also possible to take advantage of the public charging network, for example, at service stations or in shopping centres.

Getting your own charging point

In order find the best charging solution for you, it makes sense to first review the current situation of your own electricity connection and find out what kind of a charging solution can be installed without any modification works.

We offer our customers a free remote survey of the charging point

In the remote survey, we examine the power data of your electricity connection on the basis of metered electricity consumption, and then compile a remote survey report of the EV charging point for your use. The report shows the size of the EV charger you can connect to your electricity connection without increasing the capacity of the connection.

Detached houses

It is often easy to implement a charging solution for a detached house because under normal circumstances you only need a few charging devices (1‒2). We usually start off by finding out which type of charging solution is possible for the existing electricity connection.

The selection of the charging solution depends on the condition of the electrical system inside the house and the location of the charging point. It is also advisable to take into account the impacts of the charging solution on the power demand of the electricity connection.

The delivery time of the report is about three working days, and it will be delivered to the email address provided by the customer. Our remote survey report is suitable for the initial survey on the situation of the electricity connection. It is worth getting an accurate survey on suitable charging solutions from an electrical designer and/or electrical contractor.

Housing companies (semi-detached and terraced houses, and blocks of flats)

The consideration and acquisition of a charging solution for a housing company resident generally take place in cooperation with the housing company.

First of all, we recommend contacting the housing manager of the housing company in order to discuss charging solutions that apply to the entire housing company. After that, the discussion must be continued with the Board of Directors of the housing company and in the general meeting, which have the power of decision over joint purchases for the housing company.

Factors having an impact on choosing a charging solution include the age and condition of the electrical technology used in the property, as well as the available capacity of the connection. If you want to investigate the status of the property’s electricity network in further detail, it is worth using the services of an electrical designer.

Businesses

For businesses, the most efficient way to start off the process of getting charging points is to check the capacity of the property’s electrical system together with an electrical designer responsible for the property.  In addition, it is also worth considering more detailed purposes of using the charging points, e.g. whether they could be made available to users other than the company’s own employees, for example, outside office hours.
